Imagine having a business card, and being able to display yourself to tell a person or company about yourself? Or how about having a device that can recognize who you are and even give information about you? That technology exists! You probably haven’t realized it, but its already here. If you haven’t heard of Augmented Reality, it is basically what I was asking before. On Wikipedia, Augmented reality is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one.
What’s usefully about this? Well, your able to manipulate reality, in a sort of way, through a computer. Like I said before with the business card, you can display yourself by the use of a Augment Reality recognition program and with a code that look like one of those 2D barcodes. Depending on how you program the code, it can display yourself, while describing yourself and have 3D objects moving around. And for devices that can do facial recognition, your phone and other devices can already do this (with a use of a program or app, ofcourse). If you interested in this, you can go on this: http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2012/01/augmented-reality-the-future-of-digital-media/. This website shows the different uses of augmented reality, and if your interested, you can even make your own.
